We are the proud owners of a 180-year old house in the historic center of Guanajuato, Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As legend has it, the structure was originally built as a corral, and in fact, is located on Callejón del Potrero, one of the most picturesque streets in the city and translated as Paddock Street. The building was converted into a residence over the years as floors were added, now totaling three including a rooftop terrace. We purchased the abandoned property in May 2019, with dreams of refurbishing and dividing it into five nicely appointed units. After more than a year and a half of developing architectural plans and working our way through both historic preservation and municipal approvals, construction finally began in early September 2020. This is the story of our old house and the journey to lovingly restore it, returning it to the splendor it once enjoyed with a distinctly modern touch.¡Salúd!
